🌍 What is World Metrology Day?

World Metrology Day, observed annually on May 20, commemorates the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875 by 17 nations.

This historic agreement laid the groundwork for the global standardization of measurement units,

eventually leading to the establishment of the International System of Units (SI) used worldwide today.

Accurate measurement is not just about numbers—it is the foundation of science, industry, trade, and, of course, navigation.

📏 The Metric System: A Universal Scale Created by Humanity

In the wake of the French Revolution, the Metric System was introduced to unify the diverse local units used across regions.

By 1799, the metre (based on one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole) and the kilogram (based on the mass of 1 liter of water) were formally adopted.

🔭 Astrolabe: Reading the Stars to Cross the Sea

The astrolabe originated in ancient Greece as an astronomical instrument.

During the Age of Exploration, it evolved into the mariner’s astrolabe,

used to measure the altitude of celestial bodies and calculate latitude while at sea.

Typically crafted from brass or bronze, astrolabes were designed to remain vertical even on a swaying ship,

making them indispensable to navigators—and earning them a reputation as “instruments that read the language of the stars.”

In Uncharted Waters Origin, the astrolabe is an essential item used to promote your mates (officers).

Mates can be promoted up to four times, gaining improved stats and unlocking powerful effects at each stage.

1. Promotion requires learning tools (such as the Wooden, Silver, or Diamond Astrolabe),
2. as well as ducats and Red Gems.
3. Up to four promotion effects can be activated based on the promotion level.

In other words, the astrolabe is not just a navigational tool—it’s a compass for advancement and leadership.
