May 25 is Africa Day, a day to celebrate unity and cooperation across the African continent.

This day commemorates the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963,

the predecessor to today’s African Union (AU).

As we revisit Africa’s role as a crossroads of civilization and a key center of trade during the Age of Exploration,

we’ve prepared a small reward and a community sharing event to mark this occasion.

📖 How did Africa Day begin?

On May 25, 1963, 32 independent African nations gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

to form the Organization of African Unity (OAU)—

a symbolic act of unity and resistance against colonialism.

In 2002, the OAU evolved into the African Union (AU),

which continues to promote Africa’s political, economic, social, and cultural independence and integration.

🌍 What makes Africa so special?

Africa is a continent of incredible diversity, with 54 countries, over 1.2 billion people, and more than 2,000 languages spoken.

From the arid Sahara in the north to the lush savannas and rainforests of sub-Saharan Africa—

its ecological and geographical range is truly vast.

During the Age of Exploration, Africa was a vital link in the global trade network,

offering rare and valuable goods such as gold, ivory, and spices.
