May 26 - National Sorry Day Event

Uncharted Waters Origin
2025.05.26 Monday 00:00 (UTC + 9)

Enter into the Endless Possibility!

Hello, Admirals.

May 26 is Australia’s “National Sorry Day”,

a day to remember the Stolen Generations—Indigenous children

who were forcibly separated from their families under past government policies—

and to commemorate the moment Australia officially said “sorry.”

To say “sorry” is not just to admit a mistake—

It is often the first step toward understanding and healing.

As we reflect on our journey as a service,

we’d like to extend a heartfelt gesture to our Admirals,

along with a gift carrying the Director’s sincerest apology.

📘 Sorry Day Feature – “What Does 'Sorry' Mean?”

🧭 May 26 – National Sorry Day

Since 1998, May 26 has been observed in Australia as National Sorry Day.

It is a time to reflect on the tragic history of the “Stolen Generations”

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly taken from their families.

Throughout the 20th century, thousands of Indigenous children were removed from their homes

to be raised by white families under policies aiming to assimilate them,

causing generations of grief, loss, and cultural erasure.

📜 “We say Sorry.”

On February 13, 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered a national apology in parliament:

“We apologize to the Stolen Generations for the laws and policies

that inflicted profound grief, suffering and loss.”

It was not merely a symbolic gesture,

but a turning point in Australia’s path toward reconciliation.

🌿 We Reflect, Too

As a live service, we create this game,

meet our Admirals, and sometimes miss the small, meaningful moments.

To acknowledge, to apologize—

These are the compasses that guide us toward better voyages together.

🎧 Did You Know?

“Stolen Generations” was first used in the 1997 government report “Bringing Them Home.”

Australia now provides ongoing support through welfare, education, and mental health services.

Sorry Day also marks the start of National Reconciliation Week,

running from May 27 to June 3 each year,

with events across the country to honor both Indigenous and non-Indigenous unity.

Your “sorry” may be the “it’s okay” someone has waited years to hear.

We hope today’s journey brings warmth to your sea.
