It is a global day to honor the dedication of teachers and reflect on the true value of education.

👩‍🏫 What is World Teachers’ Day?

1. History

World Teachers’ Day was established in 1994 by UNESCO, marking the anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

In 1997, a similar recommendation for higher education teaching personnel was adopted, further strengthening the rights and status of educators worldwide.

2. Purpose

Teachers are not just knowledge-givers but key figures in shaping the next generation.

World Teachers’ Day raises awareness of the social value of teachers and calls for better working conditions and supportive policies.

3. Theme of 2025

“Collaboration is key to making teachers thrive”

The 2025 theme emphasizes the importance of collaboration. This year’s global celebration will be hosted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, led by the African Union.

Collaboration among teachers strengthens education quality and drives growth for both students and society.

4. Did You Know?

World Teachers’ Day is now celebrated in over 100 countries.

Events include teacher awards, education seminars, gratitude campaigns, and heartfelt letters from students.

UNESCO also highlights that by 2030, the world will need more than 69 million additional teachers to meet education goals.
