🏛 What is “World Architecture Day”?

1. History

World Architecture Day was established by the International Union of Architects (UIA) in 1985 and is celebrated on the first Monday of October every year.

It is held alongside World Habitat Day to highlight how architecture plays a vital role in improving quality of life and building sustainable cities for everyone.

2. Meaning and Purpose

Architecture is more than constructing buildings — it is a language that connects people and cities.

Through this day, the UIA emphasizes that architecture supports better living, community regeneration, and cultural diversity around the world.

In other words, building a better world begins with building better spaces.

3. Theme for 2025

“Design for Strength”

The 2025 theme, “Design for Strength,” calls upon architects to create spaces that embody resilience and hope.

In the face of climate change, disasters, and conflicts, architecture should stand as a place of recovery and renewal.

Using sustainable materials, renewable energy, and inclusive design—these are the paths toward stronger, kinder spaces for all.

4. Did You Know?

• Many countries celebrate this day with architecture tours, exhibitions, and urban regeneration campaigns.

• UNESCO describes architecture as “a fusion of art and science,” calling it a vital part of humanity’s cultural heritage.
